Alliance Amateur Swim Club

Alliance ASC is the North Belfast, Newtownabbey and South Antrim competitive swim club. With around 240 swimmers ranging from 6 years to 60+ in the main club and double that number in our ‘Wavebreakers’ learn to swim programme, we are one of the largest clubs in Ulster.

Our Foundations and Development squads swim mainly at the Grove, Ballysillan, and Belfast Royal Academy in North Belfast, while in addition our National Squads swim some of their 8 weekly sessions at the Templemore, Andersonstown and Bangor Aurora pools.

Alliance ASC welcomes swimmers of all abilities and ambitions from across a wide catchment area. The club ethos is very much one of inclusion. Working with the North Belfast Swims Trust, we facilitate access to swimming – in both learn to swim and the competitive club – for many relatively disadvantaged members of the North Belfast community.

Alliance ASC was founded in 1946 by a group of young people living in the Alliance area of North Belfast. An outbreak of polio had closed all the public pools in Belfast and so the club swam at Macedon point on the north foreshore of Belfast Lough. They quickly returned ‘indoors’ once the pools re-opened, and almost 80 years later the club is resurgent as a force in Ulster and Irish competitive swimming.
