Head of Junior Club Development Role – Leander ASC

Leander ASC are currently looking for a Level 2 coach to join their coaching team. Leander ASC, established in 1964, is a competitive and family friendly club which offers a pathway for learn-to-swim through to national high performance. The advertised role will be to oversee the swimming pathway for our youngest club swimmers from ‘fundamentals’ through to Junior Development Squad.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To oversee the swimmer pathway within the junior section of the club and to support the development of members to realise their full potential.
  • To create an annual training and competition plan in partnership with the Head Coach.
  • To monitor swimmers’ progress, identify ‘talent’ and develop individualised performance targets in partnership with the Head Coach and the Coaching Team.
  • To liaise with the Head Coach and the Coaching Team throughout the season in relation to training sessions, time trials, end of term skills assessments and galas for the swimmers in the junior club.
  • To maintain a high level of communication, visibility and co-operation between swimmers, coaches and parents.
  • To maintain communication with Learn to Swim coaches to progress swimmers to fundamentals stage when appropriate.
  • To mentor new volunteer coaches undertaking qualifications and as they start out on their coaching journey with the club.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Level 2 Swim Ireland Coaching/Teaching Qualification
  • Level 1 Safeguarding – must also undergo refresher training in line with Swim Ireland Policy
  • Must complete enhanced Access NI Check

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum 2 years practical experience poolside in a coaching, teaching or volunteer role

Desirable:

  • Experience of working with and developing junior swimmers.
  • Experience of leading / managing a team or group.
  • Experience of identifying ‘talent’
  • Knowledge of the Swim Ireland Competition Pathway

  • Excellent communication skills with swimmers, parents and other coaches.
  • Committed and passionate about the development of young athletes.
